The Spring term at Entertainment Art Academy is 11 weeks.
Classes start April 9th and end June 23rd.

The classroom for this course is glorious Eaton Canyon. Students will be educated in the delicate medium of watercolor while painting still life, models, and landscapes. This is all done under the best of light, the sun. Learn how to compose your painting in small thumbnails and then express your idea in beautiful watercolor paintings!

Improve your basic perceptual skills. Some of the topics discussed are surface line, basic forms, value, basic perspective, and blind contouring. Learn to stop drawing self-created symbols and draw what you see!

This class will show the beginner how to see and comprehend one through four point perspective and use it in their work.  Students go through numerous excercises that range use films, magazines and art.

Prepare to paint with courage, precision and spontanaity in this highly energized class on painting portraits in one sitting. Learn how to see clearly with drawing, design, and great color theory.

This class is a studio course in storyboarding and visualization techniques. It is intended to give a better understanding of script/story analysis and interpretation as they apply to the entertainment industry where the ultimate yield is a visual image. Narrative concepts such as plot, character, conflict, crisis and climax are analyzed. Ultimately, each student should be able to analyze a script scene and make decisions using all visual tools and techniques to storyboard the scene in a way that presents the story in the best, most interesting and clearest way possible.

Learn the forms and anatomy of the figure through the theory of force. We will start with simple forms and give them a direction of energy. Drawing from a model, learn the function of muscles, their placement and how they change shape relative to their efforts. Learn how the different muscular systems work with each other.

This class focuses on forming opinions while drawing the figure. We will move through different exercises to push the pose, depth, texture and most importantly, the character of the model. Learn how to see appealing and forceful shapes while manipulating them to state your ideas!

Tired of drawing tubes and boxes or rendering the model? In this insightful approach to figure drawing, from the world famous book "Force: The Key to Capturing Life Through Drawing", learn how to see, appreciate and draw the humanity of the model! Class is taught through lecture and individual instruction. Force and how it applies to form and design will be discussed. Learn to draw with passion!

Imaginanimals is creature design focused on the logistics of true animal anatomy and making "common sense" of organic forms in a hands-on way. Students will concentrate on the forms created by muscles and bones giving the artists a crucial three-dimensional understanding of the final, complex outer surface of the creature. This class will explore anatomy and zoological similarities and differences in a variety of animals. By studying their mechanics, students will be able to apply learned principles to imagined creatures giving their characters solid believability.

This course is designed to bring the fundamentals of Acting and Movement to the animation artist in a way that is clear and immediate, giving him/her the ability to understand movement, motivation, action, objective, obstacle and story from inside one’s character creations. This will allow the artist to operate as the character instead of merely the character’s draftsman.

Bill Wallen, art director, designer, illustrator, writer, and producer will discuss the key components of the Entertainment Industry, Movies, Television, Gaming, Theme Park and Live Attractions to name a few. From Concept, Development, Production through Advertising, Promotion, Licensing and Marketing, we will discuss developing your own intellectual property. Through this we will clearly identify all the job and assignment opportunities within the entertainment industry while offering practical and proven methods of achieving personal career goals.

This class will explore pushing the boundaries of your own style as well as refining your work into professional quality, all with an emphasis on character and personality.  Learn problem-solving techniques to improve the appeal and clarity of any type of design regardless of style or technique.  You will be challenged with a variety of exercises that will aid you in creating believable, exciting and original characters.

The goal of this course is to provide the insight and detailed processes to properly analyze, synthesize and translate a script into each students own personal visual style. Through character, environment and story development, the student will leave the course with the tools, confidence and portfolio of a visualized property.   This process is the seed of any pre-production or production in the entertainment and publishing industry.

This class is geared towards students that want to prepare their portfolios for either accredited schools or EAA's certificate program. Students will work on various assignments to complete a well rounded student portfolio. EAA has had a 100% success rate for the last two years in assisting students in their college placement. We also have had students receive FULL SCHOLARSHIPS based on the portfolios created at EAA!

This class will take students through the fundamentals of figure painting starting with tonal studies, limited palette color theory, into solid painting with clarity and honesty. Vadim instructs with the tactics, tools and inspiration that he carries with him from Russia.

1 week- tonal figure drawing. (plaster model)
2 week- tonal figure drawing. (life model) 3 diferent poses 1 hour each
3 week- color lecture and figure painting demonstration.
How to get unlimited colors on canvas using limited pallet ( blue, red, yellow, black, white)
4-13 weeks figure painting (life model) 3 hour pose.

Each week this class meets at a different location to absorb their surroundings through the act of painting. Focusing on the techniques of color theory as it applies to light and landscape along with shape, students will experience painting amazing California locations.

I am really excited to present the idea of having a film analysis club. This idea has come from the many engaging discussions I have had with friends, students and professionals about the art of film. This “Art” includes composition, color theory, acting, costume, editing, effects and music. My main focus in all of these topics is PURPOSE. Why are these choices we see in a film made? Are they good choices? Join me and guest speakers in discussion over one of the world’s most engaging art forms.

Learn how to work on location and discover character, story, perspective and design. Meeting in different environments every week, from museums to interesting cafes and street corners, we discuss the secrets to handling drawing quickly and capturing the drama of life in the moment.

What's behind the magic of classic, hand drawn character animation?  This class will explore exactly that!  In this "hands on" class you'll discover a solid method to the creative madness. By studying the work of masters, laying out the process from start to finish and receiving one on one coaching, you'll see what it takes to bring clarity, life and magic to your animation.

This is the cardio version of figure sculpting! In every class we will complete a sculpture. Each week we will have a different model. Come to class with nothing- go home with a completed sculpture! This class is a wonderful exercise in gesture and form. I provide a generic armatured clay body that is ready to pose and sculpt on top of. Since the volume of the body is already built up, you will be able to concentrate on the final modeling of the body. This is as close to sketching the figure as sculpture can get.What a wonderful way to increase your knowledge of the human form! Come join us in the fun! This course will teach tonal construction of the head and figure, through the relationship of light and shadow. During the term, we will experience and learn about this relationship through the use of plaster casts and live models. See the drama of tone and enjoy its results in this focused class.

Learn the basic theories of animation through the concepts of “force” from the popular book by the same name. We will explore the bouncing ball, walk and run cycles, jumps and a short film. You will learn timing, squash and stretch, anticipation, overlapping action, arcs, pose to pose and straight ahead techniques, exposure sheets and more!
